Christian Vander - Fiesta in Drums

I was first introduced to Christian Vander's name and drumming via a Modern Drummer interview with Brian Blade many years ago. Vander is best known for his work with the French progressive rock band Magma.

Here's a rare and pretty intense album of solo and double drumming featuring Christian Vander and Frank Raholison from 1973.

  2. Christian is the son of a famous (& very good) jazz pianist and grew up within the Paris jazz scene as a kid. I can highly recommend his DVD "Christian Vander - Un Homme Une Batterie“ An educational DVD that is also musical... With a little history, a little technique, some advice, and lots of music.

  3. Christian Vander was adopted by the great French jazz pianist Maurice Vander. Growing up, he was surrounded by music—not just from his parents and step-parents, but also from the many well-known musicians who often visited their home. By the age of four, he was already going with his parents to Paris jazz clubs like the Club Saint-Germain. If you're interested, check out the DVD Christian Vander: Un Homme... Une Batterie—it's part lesson, part performance, with some history, tips, and lots of great music.
