Back in Calgary & Memories of a Wynton Tribute Gig

Sorry - I've had to curtail my blogging recently. Been very busy lately having moved back to Calgary and trying to get settled in. But it's great to be here !

Hmmm.....snow in June ? What's that all about ???

Anyways, I just came across these three clips of myself playing with the Mark Wilson Septet from the spring of 2007.

We played a weekend at the Beatniq (Calgary's premier jazz club) featuring the music of the Wynton Marsalis Septet.
I remember it being a fun project getting inside this music and learning a lot from listening to drummers such as Herlin Riley and Ali Jackson Jr. to prepare for it. Mark also went above-and-beyond the call of duty in transcribing an entire evenings worth of Wynton's arrangements ! No easy feat...

These three clips feature Wynton's own arrangements of some lesser known Duke Ellington compositions:
