Here's one to get the week started featuring a reunion trio of sorts with Chick Corea, Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes on drums:
It's clearly been a long time since Miroslav played any tunes - in his solo he turns the beat around and then completely loses the form on 'How Deep Is The Ocean' and Chick has to charge in and save the day!
ReplyDeleteFor my money Miroslav has always been at his best in other, more open, contexts - he seems to have problems with song form (can anyone follow the blues form on the classic "Matrix"?).
But on things like 'Freedom Jazz Dance' from 'Mountain in the Clouds'he's amazing, and he's probably technically the greatest arco bassist jazz has ever seen - just keep him away from AABA!
